Applications for both our 2021 - 22 High School Internship Program and U.S. Service Academy Nominations are currently being accepted. Both programs are open to students from all islands. The final deadlines are not long after school begins in the fall, but interested students can and should submit their applications early. I am happy to answer any questions you or any potential applicants may have. You can feel free to pass along my contact information. Mahalo, Sarah Kaopuiki Director of External Affairs Office of U.S. Senator Brian Schatz High School Internship ProgramSenator Schatz's High School Internship Program provides a hands-on learning opportunity and encourages students to be leaders and advocates in their schools and communities. Previous classes have conducted peer surveys, attended community meetings, tracked how federal legislation impacts their communities, and learned how to propose the office take action on issues that are important to them. The internship runs from October - April, and interns must commit for the full term. This is a virtual internship, and the work is designed to be completed outside of school hours. The program uses online tools and communication methods, including weekly video conferences, so students from all islands are encouraged to apply. Strong preference is given to students in their last year of school. Applications for the 2021 - 22 school year must be completed before 6:00pm on Sunday, September 5, 2021. An official nomination is required for admission to each of the Service Academies except the United States Coast Guard Academy. Due to a competitive and thorough selection process, students are encouraged to apply to their Congressional sponsors and Service Academies in the spring of their junior year. Students in their senior year will also be considered. Applications are due before 6:00pm on Friday, October 15, 2021.
