See deadline below! Hello from UAPB Aquaculture/Fisheries: Hope everyone is well:
The Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) is looking for highly motivated students interested in aquaculture, fisheries management, environmental science, or related conservation careers to enroll in our Aquaculture and Fisheries Science bachelor’s degree program. UAPB was founded in 1873 and is a Historically Black College and University and 1890 Land Grant Institution, with problem-solving programs designed to serve Arkansas and the nation. Our program has a nearly 40-year history of producing trained professionals employed in aquaculture, fisheries, environmental science, or related conservation careers. We have many partial scholarships available each year, many of which are exclusively for Aquaculture and Fisheries Science majors. As an aquaculture and fisheries major at UAPB, there are many opportunities to gain work experience and participate in activities that foster professional development. The student-organized Aquaculture/Fisheries Club (AFC) contains sanctioned sub-units of the American Fisheries Society and U.S. Aquaculture Society. The AFC provides many opportunities for undergraduate students to socialize with fellow students, graduate students, faculty, and staff through monthly meetings, seminars, educational activities, community service, and socials. The department can arrange for interested students to attend at least one scientific conference per year. We also assist eligible students in securing paid summer internships through agencies such as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Geological Survey, Bureau of Land Management, National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, various branches of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and commercial fish farms. These internships can range in length from 10 weeks during the summers to a whole 15-week academic semester. Successful interns often gain employment with the agency or company following their graduation. I wanted to let you know about a unique scholarship opportunity here at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB ). We currently have a federally funded scholarship program for eligible agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries science, and human science majors (see attached flyer). Awards are GPA- and ACT score-dependent and range from $2,000-$20,000 per academic year. Despite the listed closing date of March 31st, they are still accepting applications for students entering in Fall 2021. I would enjoy talking with you further about the scholarship program as well as the Aquaculture and Fisheries Science major. We would also be interested in having you over to visit our department, meet some students, and see our facilities. If you are interested in this, feel free to contact me at the number below or send me your number and a convenient day/time for a chat, and I'll contact you. Below is the live link for the scholarship application - you can cut/paste this address into your browser and hit return, complete the application, and click submit. It only takes about five minutes to complete. Even if you're still undecided about UAPB, it would still be good to apply to the program and see what award level you might qualify for. https://uapb.tfaforms.net/73 For more information about the School of Agriculture Fisheries and Human Sciences at UAPB, click on the link below.
